Halar® ECTFE,It is a copolymer of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene, which is a semi-crystalline, melt-processable partially fluorinated polymer.
Due to its unique combination of properties, Halar® ECTFE is particularly suitable as a coating material in protective and anti-corrosion applications.
Key features:
- Excellent heat and chemical resistance
- Optimum impermeability
- Excellent flame retardancy
- Excellent surface properties
- High surface finish
- High purity
processing
Halar® ECTFE Available in a variety of grades, specifically designed for electrostatic powder coating, fluid bed coating, or both.
Electrostatic powder coatingThe process typically includes substrate preparation, spraying, baking, and cooling. It may take several reciprocations to achieve the desired Halar® ECTFE coating volume and coating thickness.
Fluidized bed coatingUsually, preheated items can be baked by dipping them directly into a fluorinated powder. The dipping and baking operations can be repeated to create multiple layers of coating and achieve the desired coating thickness.
Markets and applicationsHalar® ECTFE Typical applications include exposure to extremely corrosive or ultra-high purity chemicals, such as strong inorganic bases and strong inorganic and oxidizing acids:
- utensils
- Reactor
- Semiconductor chemical storage tanks and piping systems
- Piping system
- Centrifuge
- Mixer
- Exhaust cylinders
- Filters
- Plating equipment
Pharmaceuticals & ChemicalsExhaust duct coating:Halar® ECTFE Coated stainless steel exhaust duct systems are designed to handle a wide variety of corrosive exhaust gas streams in a variety of industrial applications, including cleanrooms.
- Chemical resistance
- Barrier properties
- Better than plastic and FRP pipes, safer and more resistant to corrosion
- FM certified for use in ventilation and smoke extraction systems to reduce or even eliminate salt deposits and debris that can reduce airflow without the need for sprinklers.
High purity applicationsHalar® ECTFE static immersion tests in ultrapure water and high-purity chemicals showed only very low levels of metals and organic extractables. Additional dynamic rinsing data proves that Halar® ECTFE is suitable for high-purity systems in the semiconductor, biopharmaceutical industries. In addition, Halar® ECTFE has a very low amount of fluoride ion leaching.
Pulp & PaperProtective coatings:Halar® ECTFE It has a history of success as a protective coating in corrosive environments due to its low sensitivity to pH, moisture and strong oxidizing agents, as well as its inability to be attacked by large amounts of chemicals. In addition, Halar® ECTFE powder coatings form a tight, smooth protective layer against corrosion.
SemiconductorHalar® ECTFE Coatings meet the stringent chemical and temperature resistance standards required by wafer fabrication equipment and clean rooms. For example, it is widely used for exhaust duct system coatings.
Wafer fabrication equipment:Halar® ECTFE Coatings ensure that production efficiency and purity standards are met in semiconductor processing environments. Process exhaust ducts made with Solvay's fluoropolymers comply with major industry standards, including those of FM Global. Halar® ECTFE has excellent corrosion resistance and thermal stability.
Process exhaust ducts:Halar® ECTFE Delivers exceptional results in semiconductor environments. It is used as a coating in exhaust ducts, vessels and process equipment: powder coatings have been successfully used for fire protection and corrosion protection in exhaust duct systems that must comply with the FM4922 fire safety standard. Piping systems coated with Halar® ECTFE have exceptional surface smoothness, reducing the risk of contamination build-up and corrosion.
Fluid handling systems:A fluid handling system includes some indispensable steps such as delivery, storage, filtration, and handling. Thanks to their excellent properties, fluoropolymers are widely used in the semiconductor industry because they can withstand extremely harsh chemical environments and temperatures.
Halar® ECTFE Coatings are the best choice for critical components such as valves, pipes, tanks, vessels, and heat exchangers.
Waste disposal units:Substances that are considered waste in semiconductor manufacturing can be corrosive, flammable, reactive, and/or toxic. Fluoropolymers have excellent strength and acid resistance and are used for etching, peeling, and Cleaning process, while also resisting abrasion of slurry and waste liquids. Pipes and fittings, valves, and other components coated with Halar® ECTFE provide reliable performance for waste treatment systems.
Case Study:Halar® ECTFE Flue liningThe chimney with Halar® ECTFE lining is maintenance-free After 15 years, the chimney with glass-fibre reinforced FRP/Halar® lining is still in good working order and does not require any maintenance. The chimney is part of a power plant in the North Jutland region of Denmark, and its lining comes into contact with sulfuric acid at 110°C. Recent inspections have found no signs of chemical corrosion caused by exhaust gases, nor have they found surface cracks
Chlorine absorption deviceChlorine absorption unit with fluoropolymer lining The chlorine absorption unit with FRP/Halar® ECTFE double composite lining installed in a petrochemical plant has been in continuous operation for 14 years. Inspections carried out after the closure of the plant found that the lining was in excellent condition, despite frequent contact with chlorinated hydrocarbons, hydrochloric acid and chlorine molecules.
Process vessels lined with fluoropolymersLong-term performance of fluoropolymer-lined process vessels A Halar® ECTFE-lined tank was left intact after 23 years of operation. It is used in a vinyl chloride monomer production plant to process alkaline fluids and activated chlorine.
